This study was conducted by the East Foundation, Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute, and Texas A&M University Natural Resources Institute as part of the Geospatial Team in the Recover Texas Ocelots project. In the study, potential reintroduction sites for ocelots were identified based on ocelots’ ecological needs plus socio-political realities likely to impact reintroduction of an endangered species in Texas, a state where the vast majority of lands are privately owned. This study was used to select the initial site that will be used for ocelot reintroduction. A Safe Harbor Agreement between the East Foundation and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service was developed for the selected site.
